E-Waste Recycling & Urban Mining in Canada

E-Waste Recycling

Klean Recycling turns end-of-life electronics into recovered material. Every year up to 140,000 tonnes of electronic waste are disposed of in Canadian landfills — hardware that still holds usable metals, plastics and glass, buried instead of returned to industry. We exist to intercept that stream, pay for what it is worth, and put it back to work.

The fastest-growing waste stream on earth

Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste the world creates. Device cycles shorten, households and businesses refresh fleets faster, and the volume of discarded phones, laptops, tablets, servers and peripherals climbs every year. Landfilling that material destroys value twice: the embedded elements are lost, and the burden of extracting virgin replacements is pushed back onto mines and refineries. Recycling the stream instead of burying it is the only route that keeps the material in circulation.

Urban mining, explained simply

Urban mining takes discarded devices and breaks them down into recoverable, usable materials. Rather than treating a dead laptop as refuse, we treat it as ore — a concentrated, above-ground deposit that has already been mined, refined and assembled once. Breaking a device down to its component fractions recovers the elements inside it and returns them to manufacturers as feedstock. That is the whole proposition behind electronics recycling at Klean Recycling, and it is why our work has been featured in a CNN video.

The distinction matters commercially. A recycler that only reduces volume produces waste in a smaller shape. A recycler that produces specified material fractions produces something a manufacturer can buy. Urban mining is the second of those, and it is the standard we hold our own process to.

Sell us your electronics

We do not simply accept drop-offs — we buy. Our devices price list sets out what we pay for the hardware we handle, and our elements pages explain what is recovered once a device is processed. If you are holding retired phones, laptops, tablets or office IT, you can sell them to us and recycle them in the same step. Tell us the device type, the quantity, the condition and your location, and we will take it from there.

Backed by Klean Industries

Klean Recycling is wholly owned by Klean Industries, a resource-recovery group that designs, engineers and delivers waste-conversion facilities worldwide. That parentage gives our e-waste disposal and recycling work engineering depth, supply-chain discipline and a long view of where recovered materials actually go. Urban mining is not a slogan here; it is the operating model of the group we belong to.
